Caryophyllaceae

In Britain the family Caryophyllaceae (Campion family) are dicotyledons, with flower petals present and free. The ovary is superior.Leaves are nearly always opposite generally without stipules.

Flowers have 4/5 sepals and 4/5 petals. Petals sometimes absent

Stamens usually twice number of sepals

Genera eg. Dianthus, Silene, Lychnis, Stellaria,
