Lamiaceae

In Britain the family Lamiaceae (the Dead nettle family)are dicotyledons, with flower petals present and fused. The ovary is superior.Square stem (but don’t confuse with Scrophulariaceae)

Leaves generally opposite and without stipules.

Flowers usually have toothed calyx, corolla 4 or 5 lobed usually 2-lipped.

Stamens 4 (or 2) 4 separate nutlets

Genera eg. Mentha, Ballota, Lamium, Lycopus Thymus
