Scrophulariaceae

There are some very good photographs and descriptions of the following plants:

Great mullein Verbascum thapsus

In Britain the family Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family) are dicotyledons, with flower petals present and free. The ovary is superior.

Leaves generally alternate above and opposite below, without stipules.

Flowers usually have 4 or 5 toothed calyx, corolla usually zygomorphicrphic 4 or 5 lobed .

Stamens 2 (veronica) 4 or 5

Genera eg. Verbascum, Scrophularia, Linaria, Veronica
